AS Evaluation Question 2 - Miss Georgiou

Question 2:
How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The main character that is introduced first in the film is the younger sister. Stereotypically young females are seen as naive and unsure of what is occurs around them; this is seen when the young girl in my film is strolling through the forest with an innocent expression on her face, this immediately provokes the audience to make the mental decision of the younger sister being the victim in the film because of her representation throughout the film. The persona of the younger sister was inspired by the phone call scene in the movie Scream when the young woman is on the phone to the villain and is represented as un-intelligent.

The younger sister appears to the audience because the audience are automatically drawn to her because of the way in which she is presented as innocent so the audience feel emotionally connected to her because she is so young.
Although the older sister does not appear in the film as frequently as the younger sister does, she is represented as caring and affectionate towards her younger sister which is the general perception that society has of the relationships that older siblings have with their younger siblings.

Gender is represented in a stereotypical way in the sense that the female character is the victim as also portrayed in other successful thriller films such as Scream, this reinforces the stereotype of females being vulnerable and needing to be protected and cared for.

  1. Your analysis of question 2, demonstrates minimal understanding of how your thriller sequence represents specific social groups. You have included points on your two characters, but you have not explored your reasons behind representing particular groups. Therefore, you need to elaborate on the points that you have made, by considering your reasons in more detail.
