Question 1:
What ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Important conventions in a media film are mise-en-scene, cinematography and iconography. In production of my thriller film, I used these important conventions.
The first frame of my film is based in the forest and it was a younger girl walking through the forest. For this frame, I used a long shot in order for the audience to be able to feel as if they are travelling on her journey through the forest with her.
This frame also includes natural lighting to suit the location and the setting which is a morning setting. This scene is similar to Black Swan in the sense that both films are set out in daylight which is conventional to the thriller genre. This scene is the scene where the younger sister is introduced. The sound in this frame is mainly diegetic as there are natural sounds that the audience will expect to see such as: leaves crunching underneath the younger sister's feet as she walks through the forest, this creates a sense of enigma within the audience as they are unsure of what is due to the fact that they don't know what is happening next.
An example of a scene in my film that is conventional to the thriller genre is the underwater scene which is inspired by the film Orphan, this scene has similarities with the part of the scene in Orphan when the woman is murdered in the bath, the use of non diegetic sounds for this scene of my film creates a sense of anxiousness throughout the audience as they come to terms with the fact that the killer of the young girl could possibly the older sister. This is conventional to the thriller genre as typically in thrillers, the killer of the victim is usually the person that you least expect.
Your analysis of question 1, demonstrates minimal understanding of how your thriller sequence follows the conventions of a thriller. This is because you have not explored the conventions in enough detail and have only focused on two examples. Therefore you need to refer back to your sequence and aim to make further examples, by exploring the conventions that you chose to include in a lot more detail.
